Coronal Mass Ejection
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Start Time: 2024-07-08T21:48Z ( SOHO: LASCO/C2 )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
SOHO: LASCO/C2
SOHO: LASCO/C3
STEREO A: SECCHI/COR2
Activity ID: 2024-07-08T21:48:00-CME-001 (version 2)
Note Keyword:
DPL: CME exhibits dimpled front
Faint: Faint event; may affect type assignment
FF: Event fails/disappears before exiting COR2
GAP: Data gap
Source Signature Keyword:
OFL: Moving/Opening field lines
Morphology Keyword:
F: Flux Rope
Note: A relatively bright complex-shaped CME with two lobes seen in the west in coronagraphs. The source is likely a clear opening of field lines seen in SUVI 284 on or behind the west limb after 2024-07-08T21:30Z. STIX instrument on the SolarOrbiter registered an equivalent of an M1.1 flare from the west limb (for Solar Orbiter) at 2024-07-08T21:21Z, confirming the possible source of this CME as behind the west limb (for SOHO and STEREO A). An alternative source could be an eruption between Active Regions 3739 and 3734 centered (~S02W50) which is first seen around 2024-07-08T21:20Z in AIA 304 and (as minor dimming) in AIA 193, however the fit of this CME with two coronagraphs gives higher longitudes than 50 degrees (between 90 and 110 degrees).

Prime?"primary flag" which is either True or False. If there are multiple CME analysis entries for a single CME, this flag would indicate which analysis is considered most accurate per measurement type. This is a helpful flag if you would like to download only one most accurate CME analysis per CME per Measurement Type

CME Analysis M2M_CATALOG LE true SWPC_CAT 97.0 -4.0 488.0 S 40.0 2024-07-09T05:07Z Very approximate measurement because the source is likely behind (or on) the limb and because the CME front is relatively faint in coronagraphs. The fit with 2 coronagraphs favors the on-limb or behind the limb source, with the variability of longitude from at least 90 to 110 degrees. 1: Result 1 (2.0 AU)

CME Analysis M2M_CATALOG LE false Plane-of-sky NONE -2.0 491.0 S 26.0 2024-07-09T04:53Z Because the CME source has not been found on the Earth-facing disk and is likely backsided, but the analysis based on the fit with two coronagraphs gives a range of possible longitudes, it is beneficial to also make a plane of sky measurement of this CME.
